Apple Event Feed
Last Message1 month, 1 weekago- mike : -- end of feed --
- mike : Additional details: WiFi ships in late March, 3G models ship in April.
- mike : «link»
- mike : Apple iPad page is live:
- mike : Update:
- mike : Thanks for following the feed - we'll be posting a summary article later today.
- mike : and international carriers are expected to come on board with plans in June & July.
- mike : AT&T in the US will be offering a 250 MB plan (no contract) for $14.99 a month, and unlimited for $29.99 a month.
- mike : add $130 to each of those base prices to get 3G option (unlocked!)
- mike : Pricing starts at $499 for 16 GB WiFi model. $599 for 32 and $699 for 64 GB.
- mike : Shipping - sounds like 2-3 months.
- mike : and app developers can get the iPad SDK today.
- mike : A very functional version of iWork available
- mike : Apple's offering its own eBook reader and store.
- mike : Runs iPhone/iPod apps as well as dedicated apps designed specifically for it.
- mike : So. iPad. .5 inches thin, 1.5 lbs, 10 hours battery life (1 month standby). Both WiFi and WiFi+3G versions. Unlocked.
- mike : and that's it folks!
- mike : "It's the combination of these two things that have let us make the iPad."
- mike : We've always tried to be at the intersection of technology and liberal arts -- we want to make the best tech, but have it be intuitive.
- mike : "This is a magical device at a breakthrough price"
- mike : "Over 12 billion downloads" (iTunes store)
- mike : "Over 125 million iTunes store accounts w/credit cards"
- mike : "over 75 million people know how to use the iPad already" - showing photo of iPhone
- mike : "Do we have what it takes to establish a 3rd category of products?"
- mike : Looks like Steve & Apple felt the same way and came up with the iPad in response.
- mike : To me, netbooks have always seemed a bit of a kludge. "I want to surf and chat w/friends with a small, always-available device ... but there's nothing with a really good form-factor so I'll just use this mini laptop"
- mike : Dare I say it? This is a gamechanger.
- mike : (ew - has he seen some of the stuff on the internet?) ; )
- mike : "hold the internet in your hand"
- mike : talking about the product design now - single piece of glass makes up the face.
- mike : nice case that doubles as a flip-up stand.
- mike : Think the small bluetooth kb that comes with the iMac, with a docking stand attached.
- mike : Oh! Dock with keyboard attached.
- mike : Apple is going to trash the casual netbook user market with this thing.
- mike : Now showing off accessories
